RELATIONAL CONCERNS

Belonging is foundational to mental and physical health, with more and more evidence supporting the toxic effects of social isolation. At the same time, close attachment to others necessitates conflict as we work to apply templates for relating learned in childhood to each new relationship. Oftentimes we have all sorts of unconscious and uncommunicated views about how intimate relationships should operate (e.g. anger should never be expressed; physical contact is always intrusive, etc.). Sometimes relationships cannot survive the working through of these deep-seated, core attachment needs. However, to truly experience intimacy with another, we must feel safe enough to communicate our vulnerabilities, fears, and work through differences and expectations. We are happy to help you work through interpersonal issues in individual psychotherapy, in which we will frequently emphasize understanding your core emotional experiences and role play effective communication.

If it feels we may be a good fit, please don’t hesitate to contact us to schedule a free consultation or set-up an intake appointment.
